A Little Bit About Kara:
Kara Skaflestad is a twenty-seven year old woman who, in December 2008, was diagnosed with breast cancer. In January 2009, she underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. Two weeks ago, she began four months of chemotherapy treatment to be followed by radiation treatment sometime this fall.
Kara was born and raised in Pompton Plains, New Jersey and graduated from Pequannock Township High School in 2000. She then attended York College in Pennsylvania where she majored in Marketing. During college, she enjoyed many extracurricular activities including four years on the York College rugby team. After graduating from college, Kara moved back to New Jersey and began her career in advertising. She moved to Hoboken, New Jersey in 2005 and is currently employed as an Account Executive at Publicis Worldwide in New York City.
Kara's strength and courage are unwavering. Her spirit and optimism are uplifting to everyone around her. She is an amazing person and continues to fight this horrible disease with grace and style. Last fall, prior to her diagnosis, Kara raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer research through the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. This was in honor of her grandmother, who recently passed away after battling breast cancer for many years. Kara plans to help other women with cancer by volunteering her time at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, where she is currently being treated. She hopes to one day walk the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer as a breast cancer survivor.
Evolution is continuing to contribute towards Breast Cancer research in her honor, so please JOIN US!
